What are some alternatives to dying your hair black?

I've just been cast in Bye Bye Birdie as Rosie who is Spanish. However, I am a VERY fair-skinned, medium blond haired girl. The director wants my hair to be black for the show, but I've heard that BAD things can happen to blond if they use temporary black hair dye. Does anyone have any other suggestion!?!?!!? (I also might add he does NOT want to use a wig, because as he said, "It looks fake.")

There are hair rinses that wash out the next time you wash your hair......it is called Fanci Full. You can buy it at pretty much any department store. Comes in a variety of colors. Works really good, and it's pretty inexpensive. Buy some and try it before the play and see how it does, FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS!!!! You may need to go over it a few times since your hair is so light......but that would be your best bet. DO NOT use manic panic or anything like that, it takes up to 6 weeks or more to fade and then I cannot guarantee that you're true hair color will come back

Wow. He's really demanding - does he realize how much damage you'll do to your hair trying to get it back to normal after you've dyed it blonde? The best I can tell you is to get a semi-permanent color, like manic panic, or one of those spray or brush in temporary colors. Permanent colors don't damage your hair, it's stripping the color out to get your old color back that's so bad.

maybe try a temporary dark brown? it should look black from the audience, if not, it's dark enough that when you do go on stage, you can just touch up the outer layers with black hair spray
